1. Best Beginnings is available at no cost to any pregnant woman and her family. The goal is a healthy pregnancy and a healthy mom and baby. A nurse assists a pregnant woman to access and utilize resources including medical prenatal care, prenatal classes, Medicaid, WIC, home visiting, and other services. Information about pregnancy, labor and delivery, and baby care is provided.
2. Nurse-Family Partnership program is available at no cost to young first-time mothers beginning early in pregnancy and continuing throughout baby’s first two years. A nurse partners with a mother-to-be and assists her in the following areas: what to expect during pregnancy, labor, and delivery; how to use community resources; immunizations; nutrition for mom and baby; baby’s development; how to keep baby safe and happy; how to prepare for the future, and other pertinent topics.
3. Welcome Home visits are made to any new mom upon her request or the referral of her physician. Nurses make home visits to provide information and support on a variety of topics: breastfeeding, nutrition, infant safety, growth and development, infant care, and more. Certified Lactation Counselors are available to assist with breastfeeding concerns.
4. Children’s Special Health provides services to high-risk pregnant women, high-risk newborns, and children with special health care needs from birth to age 19. Covered services include medical evaluations, medical and hospital care, and emergency and urgent travel. Apply at the Public Health Office.
5. Genetic Clinics are scheduled 3 times per year to provide counseling and testing by a genetic specialist physician and a genetic counselor. Call the Public Health Office for more information.
6. Dental Health Services provides financial assistance for dental care for ages 0-18, orthodontic care for children with severe malocclusions, and dental care for the elderly (over age 65). Financial criteria must be met, and funding is not always available. Pick up applications at the Public Health Office.
7. WIC is a service for pregnant, postpartum, or breastfeeding women, and for infants or children under five years old. Nutrition information and food are provided to families that meet financial guidelines. Fathers, guardians, or foster parents may apply for WIC for their children.
